hi!

for multilingual sites without ASCII encoding you would probably use something like:

// connect to mysql

if ( !( $mydb = mysql_connect ( $myHost, $myUser, $myPass ) ) )

   die( "cannot connect to MySQL\n" );

if( !mysql_select_db( $myDBName, $mydb ) )

   die( "Could not select database: " . mysql_error() . "\n" );

mysql_query("SET character_set_results=utf8", $mydb);

mysql_query("SET character_set_client=utf8", $mydb);

mysql_query("SET character_set_connection=utf8", $mydb);

// connect to oracle

if ( !( $oradb = oci_connect( $oraUser, $oraPass, $oraInst, 'AL32UTF8' ) ) )

   die( "cannot connect to Oracle\n" );

Cheers.

I presume it is correct, or at least better than not having it.
I'm going to create an issue in the eZ Publish tracker about it
